Upland to west (spruce - hemlock - yellow birch forest). Extensive beaver flooded alder to the east and south. Spruce - hemlock - fir swamp to the north. This stand is buffered by neutral forest / shrubland communities on all sides. Potential disturbance from beaver.;Opening in balsam - hemlock - spruce swamp at margin of larger alder wetland in beaver impacted Flat Run. This margin area is much less impacted by beaver than the large flooded alder thickets that fill the floodplain. This area gets seepage from adjacent upland forest. Typha presence could be a result of slight water table rise due to beaver.
Representativeness
Similar to some other Typha stands in that it is a fairly rich wet opening, influenced by beaver and limestone drainage
